Emily is a Korean American filmmaker born in Busan, South Korea.
She immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 8, and is now based in Orange County, California. She is a 2019 graduate of NYU Tisch with a major in Film & Television.
Her films often explore themes of longing and familial ties. Her short film
“Your Shade of Blue” was largely inspired by her own separation from her aunt.
It received the Audience Choice Award and Best Actress Award at the 2022 Chain NYC Film Festival. She has also collaborated as an editor on numerous projects including “Perennial”, which premiered at Outfest 2022 and was featured on Short of the Week. Outside of the creative sphere, Emily has been an assistant editor for clients including MasterClass, Finding Your Roots (PBS), and the 2024 Prime Video feature doc: LEE SOO MAN: THE KING OF KPOP.
Emily enjoys homemade matcha lattes, yoga, and making her newly adopted kitten, Marbles, chase his many cat toys.
